Political analysts are giving mixed views on the move by former Reserve Bank Governor, Dalitso Kabambe to join the Democratic Progressive Party-DPP.
Kabambe was welcomed by the party recently in Blantyre.
While some hint that this would result into disintegration of the party, others on the other hand, allege that the former central bank chief has been imposed by DPP President Peter Mutharika for being his nephew.
His coming to DPP is reported to have created discomfort and fear among some senior members who eye the party’s presidency at Mutharika’s retirement.
Commenting on the matter, Vincent Kondowe of the Political Science Association of Malawi is of the view that Kabambe’s move would be interpreted as a sign of no proper succession plan, to the disappointment of some long serving members.
On the other hand, Mustapha Hussein, a political commentator from Chancellor College thinks Kabambe would add more political value to the DPP leadership.
