As one way of reducing under five and maternal deaths in the country, the newly elected Malawi Congress party Member of Parliament for Nsanje North Constituency, Enock Masautso Chizuzu,has donated an ambulance to the constituency.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of the 12.5 million kwacha donation,Chizuzu said he is much concerned with the way people in the area suffer after being referred to Nsanje District Hospital from Osiyana, Makhanga Health centres and Fatima Trinity due to transportation problem.
Chizuzu also said sometimes dead bodies at Fatima Trinity mortuary take many days before being transported to home village for burial.
βI am very much concerned with referral problems in my area. On top of that it has been taking some days before dead bodies are transported back home from other health facilities around the constituencyβ said the Law maker.
He also said that he has made this donation to fulfill one of the promises he made during the 2019 and 2021 elections.
In his manifesto for the election, Chizuzu promised among other things to buy an ambulance, bringing a transformer at Osiyana Health centre and revamping agriculture in the area.
He then challenged the community to use the ambulance for intended purpose.
Senior Group Village Headwoman Kalonga has hailed the law maker for fulfilling the promise a month after he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Nsanje North constituency.
The SGVH said it is the first time for a law maker to donate such ambulance to the community and asked the community to look after it.
