Following recent shifts in their positions within the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Grelzelder Jeffrey Kondwani Nankhumwa and Cecilia Chazama faced a setback as the High Court in Lilongwe dismissed their application with costs. Nankhumwa, previously serving as the Vice President (South), was reassigned as an advisor to DPP leader Peter Mutharika, while Jeffrey, formerly the Secretary General, assumed the role of Vice President (Central).

Justice Howard Pemba, presiding over the case, highlighted the lack of substantial grounds presented by the trio to substantiate their claims against the party. According to the ruling, the court found no persuasive evidence to support an arguable case, emphasizing that the reassignments merely constituted internal reshuffling within the party’s structure, rather than any form of detrimental action against them.

The court’s decision underscored the absence of a compelling case put forth by Nankhumwa, Jeffrey, and Chazama. Justice Pemba’s ruling suggested that their reallocation to different roles within the party didn’t hold sufficient grounds to warrant legal action against the DPP.
