CHAKWERA GIVES ACB FREEDOM

CHAKWERA ASSENT CORRUPT PRACTICES ACT AMENDMENT BILL.

Today, the 9th of September. His Excellency has assented to corrupt practices Act (Amendment) Bill of 2022.

The new law is yet to be gazetted, the law provides the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Mandatory to procecute offences under the Corrupt Practices Act (CPA) without seeking consent from the Director of public prosecution (DPP)

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera in the exercise of the powers conferred upon him by Section 89 of the Constitution, has assented to seven bills recently passed by Parliament and presented to him by the Legislature.

The bills are:

  1. Act No. 20 of 2022: International Development Association (Emergency Power Restoration Project) Loan (Authorization);
  2. Act No.21of 2022: African Development Fund (Agricultural Emergency Food Production Facility) Loan (Authorization);
  3. Act No. 22 of 2022: International Development Association (Second Additional Covid-19 Emergency Response and Health Systems Preparedness Project Loan (Authorization);
  4. Act No. 23 of 2022: International Development Association (Additional Financing for Malawi Social Support for Resilient Livelihoods Project) Loan (Authorization);
  5. Act No. 24 of 2022: Additional Financing for Eastern and Southern African Higher Education Africa Centres of Excellence Project) Loan (Authorization);
  6. Act No. 25 of 2022: International Development Association (Shire Valley Transformation Programme – Phase 2) Loan (Authorization);
  7. The Corrupt Practices (Amendment) Act, 2022

The law has been assented after members of Parliament passed it few months ago.
