Nsanje people hail President Chakwera for Nsanje-Marka Road Development
As construction of the 26 kilometre Nsanje-Marka road approaches completion, people in the district have described President Dr Lazarus Chakwera as a leader who live by his words.
Traditional Authority Makoko of the area says the current state of the project proves that the project is a great success and that mobility challenges people were facing between Nsanje and Marka will be a story of the past.
Meanwhile, Acting Director of Public Works at Nsanje District Patrick Malunga has assured people of the area to remain hopeful as contractor looks very committed for the work. He said when completed in next few weeks, the road will facilitate developmental projects in the area, enhance business operations and also reduce deaths of people due to delay in accessing referral treatment at district hospital especially during rainy season.
Daniel Simbi who is Site Supervisor for the CR20 construction company said about 75 percent of the work has already been done. He added that over 200 people were employed locally to help in the project responding to job creation promise by government.
In 2019, when President Chakwera was on his way to Marka on a campaign trail, he got stuck along the way due to poor condition of the road. He then promised people that if they vote for him to be Malawi President he’ll construct the road between Nsanje boma and Marka.
