Chitipa Queens have received a significant financial boost after Anderson Kiswigho Mwakyilo donated K500,000 towards the team’s preparations for upcoming netball assignments, in a gesture aimed at promoting and supporting the development of netball.

The donation was made on Thursday, 29 October 2026, during a ceremonial match between Chitipa Queens and Chitipa Queens Reserve at Police Netball Court in Chitipa.

Mwakyilo, who was invited to witness the encounter, expressed delight with the team’s performance, particularly considering its recent competitive record and progress in the netball landscape.

Impressed by the team’s determination and achievements, Mwakyilo pledged to extend his support whenever the need arises, particularly in areas where the team encounters financial and logistical challenges.

He specifically highlighted the importance of assisting the team with long-distance travel and other logistical requirements associated with participating in major tournaments and competitions.

Mwakyilo, who resides in Karonga, also emphasised his connection to both Karonga and Chitipa, expressing his willingness to contribute towards sporting development and the growth of netball in the two districts.

As part of his commitment, he presented K500,000 to Chitipa Queens, providing the team with a timely financial boost ahead of its forthcoming assignments.

Meanwhile, head coach of both Chitipa Queens and Chitipa Queens Reserve, Mirhidred Chihana, expressed profound gratitude to Mwakyilo for the gesture, describing the contribution as a significant intervention that would make a difference to the team’s preparations.

Chihana acknowledged that mobilising financial resources for tournament preparations had been a major challenge, adding that the support would ease some of the team’s financial pressures and strengthen its readiness for future competitions.

The coach further highlighted that the donation comes at a crucial time as Chitipa Queens prepare for the One NICO Top 12 Netball Cup Play-Offs, scheduled for 14–15 November 2026 in Mzuzu. Mwakyilo, who is aspiring to become Member of Parliament for Karonga Central Constituency, has demonstrated his commitment to supporting the team as it continues pursuing its ambitions in competitive netball.
