Motorist drowns in Msambeta stream.

A 24 year old motorist, identified as Joseph Jeremiah has drowned in Msambeta stream in Kawale, Lilongwe.

The incident occurred on January 12, 2022 around 19:00 hours at Msambeta Primary School in Area 23 location.

On this fateful day, Jeremiah was driving his motor vehicle from direction of Kamuzu Barracks market heading towards Area 44.

Upon reaching Msambeta Primary School, he found a traffic jam caused by flooding of Msambeta stream since it was raining.

Out of curiosity he decided to come out of his car and walk across the stream to find out the cause of the queue.

His attempt to cross to the other side was successful but the speedy water swept him into the stream when he tried to go back to where he left his car and continue with his journey.

The matter was reported at Area 23 Police, instant action was taken to rescue the man but it went in vain as the drowned person was not traceable, only to be found today January 13,2022 in an unconscious state.

Police officers took him to Kamuzu Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Currently the body is at the mortuary pending postmortem.

Jeremiah hailed from Zimenyana Village in the area of Traditional Authority Masasa in Ntcheu District.

Police in Kawale have appealed to the public to be cautious when crossing swollen rivers during this rainy season.
