Junior Flames Under-15 head coach Joseph Malizani has welcomed Malawi’s Group B draw at the inaugural FIFA Under-15 World Cup and Festival, describing it as a fair draw that will give his players a valuable learning opportunity.
Malawi has been drawn alongside Algeria, Argentina, Chinese Taipei, Oman and Suriname for the tournament, which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 22 to 31 October 2026. Malizani says playing opponents from different footballing regions will provide an important learning experience for the Junior Flames.
“It is a fair draw, looking at the teams we are going to play. We will also meet teams that are not from Africa, which gives us an opportunity to learn more about different styles of football,” Malizani said.
The coach believes the tournament will play a significant role in the development of the young players, including some who represented Malawi at the MASSA Games in South Africa and remain part of the squad.
Malizani says the experience gained in Azerbaijan could be important as the players progress to the Under-17 level, helping them gain greater maturity and a better understanding of the game.
The Junior Flames will begin their campaign against Chinese Taipei on 24 October before facing Oman and Suriname, with Algeria and Argentina completing their group-stage schedule.
