LILONGWE BRIDGE TO WEAR A NEW FACE.

Lilongwe bridge is amongst the most busiest in and out routes of the Central Business Units in the Country’s capital city.

The Bridge is set to be demolished on 1st November 2023 to pave way for the coming State – of – the art Bridge.

The New Bridge will be constructed by the Japanese Government and will be supported by two temporary bridges which are being constructed on both left and right sides of the current Lilongwe bridge, respectively.

According to the spokesperson for Malawi Roads Authority Portia Kajanga the temporary bridges are set to embark operational in October 2023.

“The new bridge will have five lanes. Pedestrians and cyclists will have their special lanes on both sides of the bridge. This State – of – art bridge will be beneficial to the Capital city traffic,” expressed Kajanga.

Over the years Lilongwe Roads have been well-known with traffic jam making motorists spending much time to get to Kamuzu Central Hospital through Lilongwe bridge.

The on going construction of the high quality M1 Dual carriageway from crossroads to Kanengo with support from Chinese Government will improve quality of roads in Lilongwe and minimise congestion within the mentioned roads.

The government through Minister of information has stressed out the need for transparency, accountability and timely action oriented in constructing the bridge.
