Government business was disrupted earlier on Monday, August 16 when Karonga Immigration Offices were temporarily sealed for non-payment of rentals.
The landlord, John Sichilima, told our reporters that the Department of Immigration has not been honouring rentals for the past six months despite several reminders.
He has since urged the department through the Ministry of Lands to square the amount due warning that if the agreed date passes without payment he will seal the offices again.
“I have reopened the offices for now after discussions with the Ministry of Lands officials but if they not honour the promise they have made I will seal the offices again,” warned Sichilima.
Ministry of Lands, Spokesperson, Enock Chingoni, attributed the development to lack of proper communication between the Ministry and the owner of the building.
“There was communication breakdown but all is sorted and now the situation is back to normal,” said Chingoni.
