In Salima today, police destroyed over a hundred bags of loose Indian hemp by burning it. This was hemp confiscated from different people over the years, some of who have been tried and convicted.
Police say the burning of the hemp was in compliance to a court order andba public display that possession of Indian Hemp remains a serious crime in the country.
The majority of those found in possession of hemp in Salima claim to have taken it from Nkhotakota, a neighbouring district.
