It is mind boggling how some foreign or international owned companies seem to think Malawi is their toying ground. And they take local based companies or Malawians as desperate and mis-informed fools to play around with anyhow they deem fit.
I got infuriated and shocked by the revelation shared by Jack Junior Kujaliwa an employee of FISD Construction Ltd. A company fully owned by black Malawians.
He lamented about a breach of contract by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd,in which they signed a sub-contracting agreement last year in adherence to the National Construction Industry Council Act.
Therein,it was stipulated and legally binded that any construction projects in Malawi awarded to the Chinese owned company,Fisd will be the sub-contractor and will be paid 3% of contract value;it is further articulating that all solar energy and irrigation related services/installations will be managed,designed and erected by the sub-contractor.
Mr Kujaliwa added;” The Chinese owned company was allowed and approved by NCIC as a certified construction company due to this legally binding memorandum of understanding,which has now been breached.”
Earlier today! The NCIC notified the nation of their stop order submitted to the Chinese owned company which is currently constructing the Mzuzu University Library.
Among the reasons for stopping the construction,were the absence of a legitimate sub-contractor in this case is Fisd Construction Ltd,since the commencement of the project. The Chinese owned company pulled a fast one,they employed another ‘not well known and inexperienced’ contractor to replace Fisd. NCIC has given 10 days of grace period to the fraudulent chinese owned company to submit reasons why they have unceremoniously walked away from a legal binding agreement and shown utmost disrespect to the laws of the Republic of Malawi.

The Secretary to the President and Cabinet shared a circular to all heads of Ministries,Departments and Agencies of Malawi Government on the implementation of The Presidential Directive on Micro,Small and Medium Enterprises order 2020 and Joint Ventures and Sub-Contracting in Construction.
The Circular was straightforward and direct to the point. This breach of contract is clearly depicting how ignorant and arrogant this Chinese owned company is to the administration of His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera and team. In other words they’re giving a middle finger to the agenda of our beloved President of Malawi and peace loving Malawians.
This Chinese owned company has proved to us,it is in Malawi to abuse and mis-use our resources and our people.
The Mzuzu University Library project is funded by Taxpayer’s money. It is us who are paying various taxes,levies and vat on almost everything. Why then should we allow a foreign company to take us for a ride? No! We won’t allow it.
This Chinese company must pack up and go. This will serve as a lesson to other greedy and selfish foreign companies.
My fellow Malawians, Enough is Enough. Let us stay woke. We should not allow such impunity on our own soil.
