The Center for Social Concern (CfSC) on Wednesday,engaged and briefed Mangochi based Civil Society Organisations about newly project which is about to be implemented soon which will run from now to December with a room for extension.The meeting was held at Wampansi Lodge in Mangochi.
The goal of this project is to empower citizens to demand transparency and accountability for improved public financial management to reduce inequality and poverty, further to it’s objective,the project is also expecting to facilitate evidence-based advocacy activities for improved transparency and accountability on public finance Management even also to strengthen the capacity of citizens and civil society organizations to demand transparency and accountability in public finance management.
CfSC is a faith-based organization working to transform the unjust structures through research and advocacy to ensure sustained change in policies for the betterment of all in line with their human dignity.
Speaking at the close of a day-long meeting, the centre’s programme officer, Bernard Mphepo, admitted that SCO’s are critical in facilitating and empowering citizens to meet the intended purpose of this project.
“The project is all about building COVID-19 resilience through promoting transparency and accountability in public finance management for reduced poverty and inequality” said Mpepo.
He further added that they are also focusing on the youth,the youth have special interest as far as efficience is concerned in government projects in line with 2063 Malawi agenda.
Mphepo emphasized that the desire of CfSC is to see empowered citizens who can demand answers from duty-bearers on issues bordering on public financing is being carried in transparency and accountability manner.
Dinkens Mahwayo, Vice Chairperson of Mangochi CSO’s concurred with CfSC for the project and sighted t that it will help to address crisis that the divastating covid 19 pandemic caused and brought to countries mainly in socio-economic functions.
