Police in Mangochi have launched a manhunt for a 15-year-old boy who escaped after stabbing to death his 26-year-old elder sister, Fyness Chapweteka due to misunderstandings over a new pot.
The incident occurred on January 11, 2024 at Mtendere village, Traditional Authority Chilipa in Mangochi.
According to their mother, Chapweteka(now deceased) bought the new pot meant for cooking. On this fateful day, the suspect took the pot without his elder sister’s permission and was using it to roast dry maize.
After she noticed, the elder sister tried to advise her brother not to use the new pot for that purpose a thing which angered the suspect such that a fierce fight erupted between the two.
In the process, the suspect took a knife and stabbed his sister on the neck and she consequently, fell unconscious.
The mother rushed with her to Phirilongwe Health Centre where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Postmortem conducted at the same facility revealed that death was due to severe loss of blood.
Meanwhile, efforts to arrest the suspect are underway. Once found, he will be charged with murder which contravenes section 209 of the Penal Code.
Police in the district are therefore, appealing to the public who may have information that may lead to the arrest of the boy to tip them off.
