Police and its stakeholders from National Initiative for Civic Education trust- NICE on September 11, 2024 engaged skilled artisan community around Biwi light weight industrial site in Kawale on human rights.
National Initiative for Civic Education trust organised the meeting to enlighten skilled personnel in the area about their rights as citizen.
Council Monica Nomole from N.I.C.E trust unpacked various rights such as women freedom, Economic freedom, the right to access NEEF loans, Access to Information ATI just to mention but a few.
After highlighting women freedom rights, the female artisan present revealed violation acts mate within and outside skilled artisan industry due to its nature, like being labelled as prostitutes.
Council Monica Nomole condemed such acts citing that it is not only against the law but it also retards the zeal for women to pursue skilled work, she then advised all female artisan to report any acts of such nature to police .
During the interface meeting police was represented by Inspector Mwiza Kondowe, the Officer In- Charge for Biwi Police Unit Kawale’s lower formation.
Biwi Police Unit In Charge, Inspector Mwiza Kondowe concurred with Nomole and further urged all women under skilled labour to report any form of abuse. He assured the participants of Police commitment to support any one victimised, especially women.
Speaking on behalf of participants, Malani Gondwe expressed gratitudes to N.I.C.E Trust and Kawale Police for the meeting saying they will utilise the tips to get their economic freedom and other human rights since before they did not have the knoweledge about these rights .
He further asked N.I.C.E Trust officials to involve other stakeholders like ACB and NEEF in the next meeting.
