The Attorney General’s office is set to appeal a decision from the Industrial Relations Court (IRC) that favored Brian Banda, the former State House Press Officer, granting him K103 million in compensatory damages for alleged unfair dismissal.
Emmanuel Lawyer, the spokesperson for the Attorney General, justified the appeal by pointing to a perceived misrepresentation of facts in the basis of the court’s ruling.
Deputy Chairperson of the IRC, Mike Kandulu, had on December 23, 2023, directed the significant compensation of K103 million, accompanied by an additional K1.2 million as severance pay. Brian Banda had served as a Press Officer at the State House in 2020, but upon returning from studying in China, he did not resume his position at the State House.
