Police in Mangochi have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who brutally defiled and murdered a 3-year-old girl, Leticia Adam, whose body was discovered in a toilet within a compound at Chipoka Village, Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi.
The horrific incident occurred on July 27, 2025. Earlier that day, Leticia had gone out to play with her friends as usual and never returned home. However, by 20:00 hours, her continued absence raised alarm. Her parents, with help from concerned community members, immediately began searching for her.
Tragically, the search ended in horror when tenants at the compound discovered Leticia’s body lying dead inside one of the toilets and bloodstains were visible around her mouth.
Police were promptly notified and rushed to the scene. The body was taken to Mangochi District Hospital for a postmortem examination.
The results confirmed that Leticia had been sexually molested before being murdered. The cause of death was determined to be strangulation due to a twisted neck. Disturbingly, her underwear was missing, further confirming the sexual assault.
Police in the district have launched a manhunt to apprehend the unknown assailants, who will face charges of having sexual intercourse with a minor and murder once arrested.
Meanwhile, police are appealing to members of the public with any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator(s) to come forward and assist in the investigations.
