SHEPHERD BUSHIRI GRANTED BAIL

Shepherd Bushiri, his wife Mary, and others have been granted bail in South Africa.

The group were arrested last month on charges of theft, money laundering and fraud, to the tune of R102 million.

The Bushiris are also allegedly in the country illegally, meaning a possible contravention of certain provisions of the Immigration Act.

Bail for Bushiri and his wife is set at R200 000 each, Landiwe Ntlokwana got R100 000, and Mudolo and wife Zethu got R20 000.

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said on Monday that his department had uncovered evidence that the Bushiris entered the country using visitors’ visas, and opted to conduct business, which is not allowed.

Two previous notices sent to the Bushiris explaining details in their permanent residence applications were also withdrawn.

The latest one was sent out in August, just two months before they were arrested.

The couple have been in the country since 6 September 2009.
