POLICE OFFICER, SISTER DIE IN ROAD ACCIDENT

A police officer who was based at Mangochi Police Station and his civilian sister have died after the car they were travelling in hit a baobab tree at Chantulo Trading Centre along Golomoti road.

The officer is identified as Sub Inspector Chimwemwe Mwamlima, 40, and the sister is identified as Satiya Mwamlima, 44, both from Mulinda Village Traditional Authority Kilipula in Karonga.

The tragedy happened on the morning of October 4, 2020 as the two were heading towards Golomoti.

The vehicle, a Mazda Demio registration number KA8713 was being driven by Sub Inspector Mwamlima from the direction of Mtakataka turn-off heading Golomoti with his sister as the only passenger .

Upon arrival at Chantulo Trading center due to speeding, he lost control of the motor vehicle and swerved to the extreme nearside of the road where he hit the baobab tree.

Following the impact, the two died on the spot after sustaining severe head injuries, fractured right legs and arms.

Meanwhile, police have appealed to drivers to always follow road safety measures to avoid accidents.
