Notorious criminal, 4 Kabaza operators nabbed over breaking offences in Kawale

Police in Kawale have taken into its custody 5 individuals for breaking into a maize mill and stole bags of maize.

The five, includes one notorious criminal, Chifundo Stafa, 29, four Kabaza operators, identified as Fannel Thomas 35, Boniface Chiomba 27, Moses Kuphenda 39, and Wilson Banda, 40.

It is on record that the five suspects were caught by Area 23 detectives during the wee hours of October 21, 2025 as they were transporting the 16 bags of maize to a place where they can easily keep in readiness for business to unsuspected buyers.

Area 23 detectives made this possible through their vigilance as during the same night they had intelligence operation to contain robberies. And the process they caught sight of riding peleton carrying bags of maize.

And further to that they identified Stafa who is on the wanted list of individuals who have been terrorizing area 23.

Further more it has been discovered that Chifundo Stafa managed to break into a maize mill and shifted the said bags few meters away before hiring the riders to transport the bags.

Thought they kept silent and never revealed where they got the bags but in the morning the syndicate got exposed through the owners who came to report on the same and luckily identified the bags that police seized.

They will appear in court soon to answer appropriate charges

Stafa comes from Mailos Village, Traditional Authority Mgabu, Chikwawa, while Wilson Banda and Moses Kuphenda comes from Lilongwe Mwazama Village, Traditional Authority Mazengera and Mbalame Village Traditional Authority Masula respectively while Boniface Chiomba hails from Sema Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chigalu in Blantyre.
