MALAWI ELECTORAL COMMISSION GEARS UP FOR 2025 ELECTIONS WITH NEW VOTER REGISTRATION EQUIPMENT

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is taking significant strides in preparing for the 2025 general elections, as Commissioner Francis Kasaila recently revealed in Nsanje during a stakeholder engagement session on new electoral laws. A key highlight of this preparation is the procurement of new voter registration equipment, which is set to arrive in June this year.

While emphasizing the commission’s readiness for the upcoming elections, Kasaila underscored MEC’s commitment to ensuring a smooth electoral process. The voter registration exercise is slated to commence in September, providing ample time for citizens to register and exercise their democratic rights.

As Malawi gears up for the 2025 general elections, the MEC’s efforts to enhance electoral systems and processes will play a pivotal role in fostering transparency, accountability, a level playing field for all stakeholders and address the registration hitches the commission encountered in the recent elections.
