BULLETS AND WANDERERS STADIUMS NOT A PRIORITY

Government has described the construction of football stadiums for Bullets and Wanderers Football Clubs in Blantyre as not a priority now.

According to minister of finance Felix Mlusu, the construction of these facilities is not an urgent priority of the new government but emphasised the project has not been entirely abandoned.

This was raised after member of Parliament for Nkhotakota North East Martha Lunji Mhone and Nkhatabay Central legislator Simon Vuwa Kaunda queried the minister of Finance for not allocating funds into the project which received financial support in the last budget.

Sports Minister, Ulemu Msungama has since indicated that government is reviewing the project saying it had a lot of gray areas.

In March this year, government awarded contracts to two Chinese Construction companies to build stadia for Big Bullets and Wanderers Football Clubs.

According to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, the two construction companies are China Civil Engineering which will oversee Bullets stadium while Anhul Foreign Economic Construction Company will build a stadium for Wanderers.

Bullets stadium project will cost K3.8 Billion while Wanderers’ is to the tune of K3.5 Billion.

The construction followed a public pronouncement by former President Peter Mutharika that his government intended to support the two football heavyweights.
