Two police officers who were allegedly ‘panel beaten’ by an angry mob in Harare, Zimbabwe for causing an accident which led to the death of a pedestrian, were last week taken to Harare Magistrates court. The other one was badly beaten and unable to walk and he was being assisted by fellow cops.
A murder charge has been levelled against them.
The details of the incident are that the two cops spotted a minibus driver picking and dropping passengers at undesignated area, the two officers approached him and sensing an arrest the minibus driver sped off.
However, the two cops managed to catch up with him and the three started tussling for the steering wheel and during the scuffle, the minibus veered off the road and hit a pedestrian who was tying his shoe laces.
The victim died on the spot.
An irate mob descended on the killer cops and gave them a dose of “street justice system.” They were rescued by their fellow police officers who rushed to scene on time.
