UNDP resident representative to Malawi Shigeki Komatsubara says the country has potential of sustaining livehoods through everyone’s participation in restoration of ecology.
Komatsubara said saving and protecting the environment is also saving and protecting livehoods and open new window for growth through creating jobs, income and stable livehoods.
“UNDP is working with For good environment management and the country should take advantage of 5 June which is World Environment Day in embarking for the restoration of ecology as it is a win win initiative to the country.”
Minister of Forestry and Natural Resources Hon.Nancy Tembo who was the guest of honour for ground breaking ceremony for Greenheart project thanked Lilongwe Wildlife Centre for taking care of the place as it was in government vision when declaring Lilongwe to become a city of making it a tourist attraction centre.
She said government is happy with the project as it will help people to understand the need for ecosystem restoration.
Tembo also toured Lingadzi river which she said it is sad to see the river bank full of plastic bottles,bags and other solid materials which is to to much use of plastic materials and poor waste disposal and hence urges public to Change behavior and adopt positive habits such as reducing, reusing, recycling of waste and limit use of plastics.
On his part Lilongwe Wildlife Trust Manager Ian D’hEygeres their priority is the well-being of nature hence he thanked partners for third support to construct Education Centre,animal clinic and accommodation for tourists which will help Continuing Education programs for students, general public, tourists and young graduates working in conservation and wildlife.
The function was held in preparation for World Environment Day which falls on 5 June and this year is being celebrated under the theme” Ecosystem Restoration”.
