SALIMA SUGAR COMPANY SLAPPED WITH UNFAIR LABOR SANCTIONS

It’s pulling cats and dogs at Salima sugar company after the Covid19 saga dug deep into it’s human resource management.

Avantmalawi has gathered that the Company opens doors for technicians from India every year, the reports indicates this year on 25th April 2021, more than 40 indians jets through to Salima sugar company in the name of technicians. This Development has angered many Malawians as quarters claim it’s uncalled for, since unemployment it’s high in Malawi.

Talking to zodiak radio, one of the human rights activist commented that the Development is suspicious since Polytechnic University is a trusted college which produces hundreds of technicians that can manage any machinery at the sugar Company, yet those Graduates are left roitering in the streets, jobless.

In an interview, the top management at Salima sugar Company backed their move, claiming it’s a normal procedure that Indian’s must come to inspect their machinery.

Our reporters were interested much on how the Indians arrived in Malawi on such a time when Covid19 is fast spreading in India without proper scrutiny. It is however not clear which ministry provided clearance as Ministry of labor and Ministry of Homeland security did not comment on the matter

Talking to health officials at Salima DHO, they claim the mentioned Salima workers provided Covid19 certificates which were negative. Asking the legibility of the certificates the health officials said they can not divulge much information.

It is alleged, 60 Indian’s have been collected samples to conduct CRP and confirm if they are Covid19 positive or not. Currently, all the Indians are in safe isolation whilst Salima DHO has not disclosed to it’s workers on the move.

On 27th April, avantmalawi received a tip that more than 15 Indian’s were confirmed Covid19 positive, a Development which was swept under rug.
