Mighty Wanderers FC Board Secretary Chancy Gondwe has assured the club’s supporters that the suspension of head coach Bob Mpinganjira will not affect the team’s preparations or performance in the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.
Speaking to Avant Publications, Gondwe said the club remains confident in its technical and administrative structures ahead of the continental assignment. He added that the board is expected to announce an interim technical panel within the next 48 hours.
Mighty Wanderers will face Tanzanian giants Simba SC in the first preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League. The first leg is scheduled for Sunday, 6 September 2026, at Bingu National Stadium, with the return leg set for 13 September 2026 in Tanzania.
Mpinganjira’s suspension follows the team’s poor run in the recently concluded Airtel Top 8 Season 9, where the Nomads suffered a 2–1 defeat to Ekhaya FC in the final on Sunday, 30 August 2026.
Despite the latest development, the club is now shifting its focus to the CAF Champions League, with preparations expected to continue under an interim technical arrangement once announced by the board.
Mpinganjira signed a two-year contract extension with Mighty Wanderers in February 2026. The renewed contract is expected to run until March 2028, although his current suspension means the club will temporarily operate under a different technical arrangement.
