The Shupo Kumwenda Bonanza 2023 concluded with a thrilling showdown as Trust Motors FC claimed victory, defeating Sichali FC 4-3 in a gripping penalty shootout after a goalless 30-minute regulation time.
Designed primarily for the Chikulunga (Chikwati) community and targeted towards aged and retired individuals, this bonanza received a generous sponsorship of K200 thousand from Shupo Kumwenda, drawing a diverse array of participants.
The finals, held at Ekwendeni Trading Centre on December 24, saw Trust Motors FC clinch the championship title, earning 10 shirts and a cash prize of K80 thousand. Runners-up Sichali FC received 10 shirts and K50 thousand, while Hillside FC, securing the third position, took home 15 shirts and K20 thousand. The fourth and fifth-placed teams were awarded 15 shirts and K10 thousand, respectively.

Speaking at the prize presentation, Alan Levarock, representing the Scottish organization Banana Box, commended the bonanza for its positive impact. He emphasized the potential of such initiatives to steer aged individuals away from engaging in unhealthy behaviors like excessive alcohol consumption and substance abuse.
Shupo Kumwenda, the sponsor, highlighted the core objective of the bonanza: promoting a culture of sharing and unity. He assured the participating teams that the bonanza would return in January 2024, reinforcing its commitment to fostering community engagement and collaboration.
