RESOURCE DOMINATES NORTHERN NETBALL LEAGUE

Ekwenden Resource Netball Team has asserted its dominance in Malawian netball by securing the Salima Sugar Northern Region Netball League title. The team triumphed with a commanding 53-31 win over Chitipa Queens in the final at Katoto Netball Courts in Mzuzu.

This exceptional performance, underpinned by strong teamwork and strategic execution, earned Ekwenden Resource the regional crown and a place in the national phase of the competition. They will be joined by Karonga Queens, who advanced as last year’s national-level best performers.

The victory was rewarded with a K1 million cash prize for Ekwenden Resource, while Chitipa Queens, as runners-up, received K750,000.

In an interview after the win, Ekwenden Resource General Secretary Ronald Mwale praised the team’s discipline, commitment, and hard work, expressing confidence in their readiness for the national finals.

Northern Region Netball Association General Secretary Ken Phiri praised the competitiveness of the tournament, noting some challenges but highlighting the overall high standard of play.

Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) Treasurer Cecelia Mtibule Bongwe also expressed satisfaction with the event, particularly emphasizing the discovery of young talent that could represent the Under-21 and senior national teams.

With this victory, Ekwenden Resource strengthens its reputation as a leading force in Malawian netball, setting the stage for further accomplishments at the national level.
