NORTHERN REGION WOMEN’S FOOTBALL TEAMS SET TO SHINE IN NATIONAL PHASE OF FAM WOMEN’S FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The anticipation builds as the Northern Region Women Football Association eagerly awaits the culmination of the national phase in the FAM Women’s Football League. This stage will witness the representation of the Northern flag by the triumvirate of Moyale Barracks Sisters, Mk Academy, and CY Sisters

A remarkable journey led to this moment, marked by 112 games played by 8 teams, resulting in a total of 190 goals scored. Moyale Barracks Sisters emerged as the highest-scoring team, netting an impressive 49 goals, while Ekwendeni Sisters conceded the least number of goals, a mere 10. On the contrary, Hardknockers faced challenges defensively, conceding 48 goals.

Chippo Ngwenya from Moyale Reserve Sisters FC clinched the prestigious golden boot award, showcasing exceptional skill with an impressive tally of 38 goals throughout the season.

Reflecting on the 2023 season, Coach John Chimwale of Moyale Barracks Sisters described it as fiercely competitive, emphasizing the team’s eventual championship claim amidst the intense competition.

In a statement, Ivy Mwafulirwa, the interim Chairperson of the Northern Region Women’s Football Association, expressed delight in the exemplary coordination witnessed throughout the 2023 league. Mwafulirwa commended the efforts of stakeholders, including referees, team officials, and the media, for their seamless administration, ensuring a well-organized and smooth-running league.

Looking ahead, Mwafulirwa conveyed optimism, expressing confidence that the three representing teams from the Northern Region will exhibit their exceptional talent and prowess in the upcoming national phase of the FAM Women’s Football League.
