Malawi slacking behind on sena railway rehabilitation.

While Malawi is yet to start rehabilitation of the Sena Railway Line from Marka in Nsanje to Bangula on the Malawi side, Mozambique is almost finished doing its part.

Malawi and Mozambique signed an Memorandum of Understanding whereby Malawi is supposed to rehabilitate and reconstruct the 72km stretch from Marka to Bangula by 30 March 2022.

Similarly, CFM of Mozambique is supposed to do the same from Dona Ana to Villa Nova (border with Malawi) which is 45 km.

Initially, this was supposed to be done by 30th September 2021 but it was extended further to 30th March 2022.

CFM officials were on Wednesday spotted finalising construction works at the border with Malawi.

In October 2020, Malawi advertised the tender for Design and Build of the Railway Section between Marka and Bangula.

The tender was awarded to Mota Engil on 27 August 2021. But some tenderers complained to ACB, who issued a restriction order and are yet to make a decision.
