MHRC ELECTS NEW CHAIRPERSON

The Malawi HUMAN Rights Commission (MHRC) has elected Commissioner Scader Louis as a new chairperson of the Commission replacing late Patrick Semphere who succumbed to covid-19 early this year.

According to a statement released by the Commission, which our reporters has seen, Commissioner Louis will serve as Chairperson for the remainder of the 7th cohort of the Commission.

“Commissioner Louis replaces late Reverend Patrick Semphere and she shall serve as chairperson of the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) for the remainder of the seventh cohort of the Commission,” Reads part of the statement.

Adding, “Commissioner Louis will be responsible for chairing the Disability and Elderly Rights and Finance Audit and Risk Committees.

Commissioner Louis is an accountant by profession and a disability rights activist by calling.

Her track record demonstrates that she is strongly grounded in promotion and protection of human rights of the vulnerable groups in the society.

She becomes the seventh woman in the Commission following the swearing in of Chikondi Chijozi as a new commissioner of MHRC earlier last month.
