Parliament has today sworn in seven newly elected parliamentarians.
This follows the by-elections held on March 30 2021.
Presiding over the ceremony, Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda has asked the new parliamentarians to stand up and defend laws of the people in their various constituencies..
“It must be emphasised at the onset that as legislators your main function is to enact laws,” observed justice Nyirenda.
He added that parliament, by its nature, calls for commitment to its very rules and
procedures meant to ensure productive flow of debate while upholding decorum.

Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Nsinja South Constituency, who is a son to late Lingson Belekanyama, says he is ready to contribute to the development of his constituency in the August house.
The other MPs are Rodrik Khumbanyiwa representing Chikwawa East under UDF, Kafandikhale Mandevana Nsanje Central under MCP,) Bizwick Milion Zomba Changalume ,(UTM) Arnold Kadzanja Ntchisi North (MCP) Enoch Chizuzu Nsanje North (MCP) and Felix Kayira.
