12 fined for contravening government farm-gate prices in Kasungu

Tembwe Magistrate Court in Kasungu has convicted and sentenced 12 traders to a fine of K50 000.00 each for buying farm produce without a license and for failing to comply with a government order on minimum farm-gate prices.
The traders were sentenced on April 21, 2021.

In a related development, 22 other traders have been arrested in Ntchisi and Mponela for the same offence. They are currently appearing in court.

Malawi Police Service (MPS) alerted agro-dealers through a media statement that police officers will be monitoring and ensuring that all players in the agricultural sector adhere to the minimum commodity prices set by government.

The MPS strongly warns all commodity traders against non compliance to these set measures. It has to be noted that non adherence is leading to prosecution.
