Two candidates withdraw prior to By elections in Nsanje

Two candidates vying for positions in Nsanje Central and Chikwawa East Constituencies have withdrawn from the by-elections, electoral body MEC has said.
According to Sangwani Mwafulirwa, Media and Communication Director at the Malawi Electoral Commission, the two Laston Saidi Katole of the United Democratic Front who was contesting under are Nsanje central Constituency as well as Finason Brown Thengulo, an independent candidate for Chikwawa East Constituency.
Mwafulirwa has since said the commission has deleted the names of the two on the ballot papers whose poll takes place on 30th March.
On 4th February, the High Court nullified 2019 parliamentary elections in three constituencies. The Court ordered the Commission to hold the fresh elections in these constituencies within 60 days from the date of the judgment. The constituencies are: 1. Nsanje Central Constituency 2. Nsanje North Constituency 3. Chikwawa East Constituency In addition, four members of parliament and two ward councilors have died in the recent past. These were from Ntchisi North, Lilongwe Nsinja South, Karonga North West and Zomba Changalume constituencies, and also from the two wards of Riviridzi in Balaka and Chitakale in Mulanje districts. The commission id due to hold elections in all the areas.
