INVESTIGATE BVUMBWE SUSPECTS’ SHOOTING – CHIMWENDO DEMANDS

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been asked to investigate the fatal Bvumbwe shooting incident in Thyolo.

Homeland Security Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda has given the directive following a fracas Monday afternoon after a police officer allegedly shot to death two suspects which he together with other officers intended to arrest.

According to National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera, the two suspects were resisting arrest and attempted to grab a firearm from one police officer and in the process the firearm was discharged.

Kadadzera says Chipiliro Masikono aged 21 of Mbizi village in T/A Jenala in Zomba was at large after injuring a police officer early this December and was spotted at Bvumbwe Trading Center where officers made advances to arrest him.

The other suspect has been identified as Solomon Mandindi, 32 of Tayali village, T/A Bvumbwe in Thyolo.
