Malawi Police in Mchinji are keeping in custody a clinician at Mchinji District Hospital Lovemore Phiri for defiling a seven year old girl.
Mchinji Police Officer in charge, George Mtetemera, confirmed the development that the 40 year old man was indeed arrested on Monday, December 28, 2020.
According to police reports on Sunday, December 27, 2020 the suspect and other people organized a party, after the party, the suspect started offering lifts to the party participants including the victim who is his neighbor’s and friend’s daughter.
It is believed that the victim was the last person to be offered the lift and in the process the suspect raped her at his home.
However, Mtetemera is therefore arguing the general public that it is important to work hand in hand with Police in reducing defilement cases as it seems such cases are rising in the country.

defilement occurred on 27 December 2020 at about 19:00 hours at Longwe Village, Traditional Authority Zulu District Mchinji. Sgt Emmanuel Banda DOB 06/06/1986 Village Mphunda, Traditional Authority Vuso Jere District Ntchisi Occupation Policeman c/o Mchinji Police Station reports in that his first born daughter Millanda Banda DOB 10/12/2014 had been defiled by Lovemore Amanzi Phiri DOB 15 July 1980 of Kamoza village, Traditional Authority Mkumbira, District Nkhata-Bay Occupation Clinician c/o Mchinji District Hospital.
Facts are that the reporter and the suspect are friends and the suspect asked the reporter to send the victim to his house so that she should attend a party together with other kids.
Then the reporter sent the girl to the party and told the suspect that he will come to collect his daughter for escort since she is young and she can not manage to go back home alone. The reporter delayed to collect the victim which pave way for the culprit to defile the girl and later sacked her vagina at his bedroom since other kids had already left the house and the suspect leaves alone. The mother of the girl was suspicious to see some sticky liquid on the girl’s dress and asked her what it was. This was the time the girl explained that she was defiled by the suspect.
Matter was reported at Mchinji Police Station, medical report form was issued which revealed that the young girl was indeed defiled. The suspect arrested, matter pending court.
