Four arrested over breaking and theft offences in Kawale

Police in Kawale have arrested four suspected individuals in connection with a series of breaking and theft cases, respectively.

The suspects have been identified as Bright James Chidovu (31), Patrick Mkungwa (29), Aubrey Charles, and James Manesi (23).

According to records filed at Kawale Police Station, the suspects are believed to have been involved in multiple incidents targeting liquor shops and grocery stores around Benito, Mtaya road and Area 24. The offences were reportedly committed over a period of three months, from January 2026.

The latest incident, occurred during the wee hours of April 20, this year where a liquor shop was broken into and items worthy K9.2 million got stolen.

Following their arrest, detectives have recovered assorted items, some of which have already been identified by the victims

Police investigations are currently at an advanced stage to recover the remaining stolen property and ensure that the suspects are taken to court to answer their appropriate charges.

In terms of origin, Bright hails from Nsanama Village, Traditional Authority Chikowi in Zomba , Patrick and Aubrey hails from Dickson and Timoti Villages respectively, under Traditional Authority Masula in Lilongwe, and James Manesi hails from Issa Village, Traditional Authority Chikweo in Machinga District.
