The Mangochi First Grade Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced Geofrey Kamtedza, 32, to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old boy against the order of nature, contrary to Section 153(c) of the Penal Code.
According to police records, Kamtedza was convicted in 2023 after committing the same offence against the same boy when he was 9 years old and was pardoned in January this year.
During court proceedings, Prosecutor Inspector Maggie Chibulire informed the court that on February 3, 2026, the convict followed the boy from his school and took him to a nearby uncompleted building after threatening him with a knife on his upper belly, where he forcefully penetrated the victim through the anus.
Upon arrival at home, his mother was surprised that he was late coming home and noticed that he was having difficulty walking and appeared to be in pain.
Upon being quizzed, he narrated the ordeal to his mother, who reported the matter to Mangochi Police Station, where the boy was issued a referral letter to Mangochi District Hospital, and the results confirmed that the boy had been sexually assaulted.
Appearing in court, the convict pleaded not guilty, prompting the state to parade four witnesses who proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
In mitigation, Kamtedza asked for leniency, saying he is a breadwinner to his family. However, Prosecutor Chibulire informed the court that the child has developed a problem of sometimes failing to control his bowel movements. She added that the convict targeted the same boy again, and his behaviour of resistance to change is pathetic and can not be tolerated in society. She, therefore, requested a lengthy custodial sentence.
In his ruling, First Grade Magistrate Roy Kakutu expressed his disappointment over the convict’s behaviour despite being pardoned from prison. He sentenced him to eight years imprisonment with hard labour.
Kamtedza comes from Mwanyama village, Traditional Authority Mapira, in Mangochi.
