In an effort to develop and enhance the capacity to ensure sustainability of community policing in a view of preventing crime and support the partnership,Malawi Police in partnership with UNDP rolled out various community police trainings in five Traditional Authorities in Mangochi from 23rd September to 25th September, 2024.
The training is being conducted concurrently in Traditional Authority Mapila, Traditional Authority Chowe, Traditional Authority Mponda,Traditional Authority Jalasi and Traditional Authority Chimwala in the district,and it participated by traditional leaders,youths,regious leaders,crime prevention panel,women,disabilities and other security agencies.
One of the facilitators at Chimwala centre, The Victim Support Unit Desk Officer at Malawi Police headquarters, Superintendent Grace Manda,said that these meetings offer an opportunity to explore how the police and community can cement the much needed cooperation from the members of the public.
“We are happy to have these orientations for communities in Mangochi, we call them an eye opener on how to handle community policing matters,and we believe as police that these orientations will have a significant impact to the people in villages” She said.

Manda appealed to participants to act in the real sense as community policing coordinators so that the message delivered to them should bear fruits.
Speaking on behalf of participants at Chimwala Centre ,one of religious leaders Richard Bakili who also hosted the training,thanked the Police for considering all community stakeholders to participate.
“These trainings will have a significant impact in our communities” commended Bakili.
Malawi Police appreciate the contribution made by UNDP towards the implementation of these trainings in Mangochi.
