EKWAIWENI TAFIKA ORGANISATION RESCUING GRANDMA NANCY NKUNIKA

Ekwaiweni Tafika, an Ekaiweni
based non profit organisation is in its exercise of rescuing a 57 year old Nancy Nkunika and her eight grandchildren.

An old Nkunika is currently caring for her eight (8) grandchildren whose ages range from two (2) to 17.

The organisation, on Friday 9 June 2023 went to donate clothes to Nkunika and her needy grandchildren, as part of its charity exercise.

Currently, Ekwaiweni Tafika organisation is constructing a three (3) bedroomed house to enable Nkunika and her grandchildren access good shelter.

In an interview, Ekwaiweni Tafika organisation’s Director Shupo Kumwenda, explained that “this is being done with the assistance from Lilian Mackenzie, a Scottish lady based in the area.”

According to Nkunika, “Ekwaiweni Tafika organisation and Mackenzie have been helping them since the day they noticed of their great need of assistance.

The organisation was established in 1999 and is mandated by the community of Ekwaiweni to facilitate and implement sustainable community based development programs.

Ekwaiweni Tafika Youth Organisation is currently working in 17 Group Village Heads under three (3) Traditional Authorities (T/As) of Senior Chief Mtwalo and part of T/A Kampingo Sibande and Senior Chief Mpherembe.

Its mission is to fight all forms of poverty with much focus on the rural communities and its target groups are; women, youths and children. It also enhance youth ability to improve the management of Malawi’s social economic activities in a participatory form, such as democratic, gender and HIV/AIDS sensitive manner for the benefit of the nation, through more effective coordination, communication, capacity building and advocacy.

While the vision is to empower women, children and youths at root level without discrimination of any type and freeing them from poverty.

New shelter

Since its establishment, Tafika organisation has been and is operating in the following areas: sports, agriculture, environmental management, health, education including assisting vulnerable people.
