TWO PEOPLE DEAD IN A FATAL ROAD ACCIDENT

Police in Chikwawa district have confirmed the death of two people following a road accident after a vehicle they boarded collided with a stationary motor vehicle on Sunday night.

The deceased have been identified as Hawa Wakati, adult, of Jombo and a five year old child, Prosper Chidatha of Chipakuza Village both from Traditional Authority Lundu in Chikwawa district.

According to Chikwawa Police Station, Public Relations Officer, Sergeant, Dickson Matemba, the accident happened around Thomu area, along Ngabu Chikwawa M1 road involving a motor vehicle registration number KU1371 Toyota Dyna which was being driven by Douglas Redson 38 of Chipakuza Village Traditional Authority Lundu in the district.

“The said lorry had about 30 passengers on board who were coming from a football match and it ended up colliding with the parked lorry registration number MC 4165 which carried bales of cotton.

Due to the impact, the two sustained head injuries and were rushed to St.Montfort hospital at Nchalo for medication where they were pronounced dead upon arrival,” stated Matemba

He further said, driver of the lorry escaped after the accident and police are hunting for him. Once arrested, he will answer charges of causing death by reckless driving.

Meanwhile, police in the district have warned people against boarding open vehicles when they are traveling.
