A Police Officer based at Lizulu Police Post in Ntcheu No. A8357 S/Insp. Jonathan Ndindi has died after being stubbed with a knife on the left part of his berry as he (deceased) was dragging a suspect from the place where the deceased and three other police officers managed to arrest and handcuffed the accused person named Dennis full particulars not known.
Brief facts are that the suspect together with other suspects were reported to be climbing vehicles in transit and stealing various goods as the vehicles were passing through Mlanda in Ntcheu district on M1 road.
On 22/03/2023 during afternoon hours, a report was received from reliable source that the suspect (Dennis) is seen at Mlanda Trading Centre taking alcoholic beverages.
The deceased and three other officers namely (1) B0234 D/S/Insp. Thomas Kalesa, No. A9239 S/Insp. Alfred Kanyenda and No. B0102 Sgt. Phunziro Kachitenji followed up the matter and managed to arrest and handcuffed the suspect at Mlanda Trading Centre. The deceased held the suspect from the place where they arrested him to the place where the suspect struggled with the deceased and in the process, the suspect produced a knife which he used to stub the deceased on the left side of the berry. The deceased fell down in great pain. The situation was unbelievable because after stubbing the deceased with the knife, the suspect fled with the handcuffs. This incident occurred at around 19:00hrs at Mlanda Trading Centre.
The officers called the Officer In-Charge for Lizulu Police Post Supt. Hassan who came with the police vehicle and rushed with the victim (deceased) to Dedza District Hospital for treatment. But unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Postmortem examination is expected to be carried out on thursday morning of 23/03/2023 at the health facility.
