Police officers at Kamuzu Bridge roadblock in Chikwawa survived an accident in which a fuel tanker failed to ascend a higher surface of the road and plunged into the roadblock shelter.
The fuel tanker, registration number ZA2853/CZ6835 was being driven by Duncan Dombola.
The tanker carried petrol and was coming from direction of Thabwa heading Dyeratu Trading Centre.
Upon arrival at Kamuzu Bridge roadblock, the braking system developed a fault prompting the vehicle to roll backwards and swerved to it’s far right side of the road and hit the roadblock shelter.
Following the accident, no cassaulty was registered.

The roadblock shelter has been demolished completely and the vehicle’s rear part of the tanker depressed.
So far, efforts to cleanup the spilled petrol are underway.
Police at the checking point are appealing to all road users to take extra caution when passing by at the facility since only single lane is being used.
