M1 ROAD REHABILITATION LAUNCHED

His Excellency Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi has today, July 12 2022, presided over the Ground-breaking ceremony of M1 road rehabilitation at Mtiti Bridge in Dowa.

On 1 June 2022 the European Investment bank (EIB) gave a ‘No objection node’ to the Malawi Government’s request for funding towards this project. The EIB is releasing 117 million Euros (about 126 billion kwacha) for the project.

Four different contractors will work on the road in phases. The rehabilitation works starts from the junction to Kamuzu International Airport up to Kasungu; this stretch will be constructed by China Jiangxi Transport Limited. Kasungu to Jenda is in the hands of Mota Engil. Unik Construction Engineering will rehabilitate Jenda to Mzimba turnoff. The stretch from Kacheche to Chiweta is under China Henan international Co. Ltd.
