In a bid to strengthen good relationship between police and members of the public, Eastern Region Police Commissioner Mr Casper Chalera has reiterated the need for collaboration on security.
He made the call during the meeting he presided over on May 26, 2022 at Traditional Authority Lulanga Headquarters in Mangochi.
The police also brought reflective jackets, whistles and torches to various community policing members in the area which were donated by Foreign Commonwealth Development Office through British High Commission.
Chalera assured members of the community of continued engagements to security implementations in the district.
“Security is paramount to the development of communities and Malawi as a country. Police is committed to building bridges in protecting every citizen. Security matters should not be left in the hands of Police alone, but members of the community should play their part too,” said Chalera.

He also appealed to the gathering to refrain from attacking persons with albinism, human trafficking and taking the law into their own hands by killing or injuring suspected criminals.
Echoing the same the Regional Executive Committee(REC) Chairperson Dan Phiri reminded community policing forums that they act as a bridge between the public and police hence the need to work hand in hand with the police.
Phiri also appealed to the gathering not to harbour criminals since the area is bordering with Mozambique and that they should report to the police all suspected criminal activities happening in the area.
Representing the traditional leaders, T/A Lulanga expressed his gratitude for the new police formation which has been constructed in his area and security equipment brought by the police.
However the chief requested for a crossing border point at Ching’anda area of which in response Chalera assured the community that the management will look into it.

Before the meeting, the ER Commissioner visited Makanjira Police Post, Fort Maguire Police Unit, Chiphole Fishing Dock and also inspected the newly constructed Police Unit.
To spice up the occasion, the youths in the area performed various activities such as drama.
