As a matter of getting first hand information on crop outlook across the country, today the State President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera continues with Crop Inspection tours and he has toured maize and soya bean farms in Aaron Village, Mjojo Village and Kaunde Village, all from Traditional Authority Mlumbe of Zomba.
Despite being a rainy day, the State President led by our Agriculture Minister Honourable Lobin Lowe, MP, braved the rains and interacted with farmers from these villages of Aaron, Mjojo and Kaunde.
Through these interactions, our farmers are encouraged to do more in Agriculture so that next time, their farms are considered for this Presidential crop inspection.
Crop inspection tours were introduced longtime ago by the first President of Malawi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda and since his death, these inspections also died and the current leader Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has revived them.
Speaking to media after today’s tours, the Malawi leader emphasised a need for continued use of manure to complement the inorganic fertilizers bought under AIP to maximize production.
He lamented the delay in delivery of fertilizers under Affordable Inputs Programme but he was quick to say that his government will workout on challenges faced this year’s AIP for smooth delivery of this programme.
Our leader also emphasized that his government will make sure that extension services are scaled up so that adoption of modern farming technologies becomes easy.
The president is scheduled to hold a developmental rally at Namadidi ground in Zomba Changalume Constituency
