Motorcycle robber reaps 12 years IHL in Kawale

The Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Court on February 10, 2022 sentenced and convicted a 26- year-old Jordan Jacob to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery .

The court heard through state prosecutor Sub Inspector Roxy Nsaka of Kawale Police that the convict committed the offence in November 18, 2020 within Area 36, by -pass road.

Nsaka further told the court that Jacob hired the victim who is a Kabaza operator from Mchesi rank to ferry him to Area 36 by-pass.

On the way, the convict attacked the victim by injecting him with unknown drug believed to be Valium which caused him to sleep uncontrollable, only to be found in the grave yard the next morning without the motorcycle.

Later on, in the month of February 8, 2021 the motorcycle was seen in Area 23 being used for Kabaza with some minor changes, partly painted of it’s frame to disguise it’s original identity.

However, despite all these changes the owner identified it and reported the matter at Area 23 Police unit where arrest and recovery of the motorcycle was made.

Appearing in court, Jacob pleaded not guilty to charges leveled against him and this prompted the state to parade 4 witnesses who testified against him.

In submission, Nsaka told the court that Kabaza robberies are on the rise and prayed for a stiffer punishment to deter other would- be offenders.

In mitigation the convict asked for leniency saying he is the first offender and he is a bread winner for his family.

Passing sentence, SRM Florence Msekandiana concurred with the state and sentenced him to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour IHL.

Jacob hails from Undi Village, Traditional Authority Mazengela in Lilongwe District.
