The Mkukula Senior Resident Magistrates (SRM) Court on January 31, 2022 has convicted and sentenced Cheliyo William, 60, to 13 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) for defiling his 15-year-old niece.
The Court heard that the suspect started defiling the girl from November 2021 until January 2022 when the matter was revealed.
The victim is said to have been threatened to hide the ordeal.
The court also heard that the victim was being coaxed with money.
Results at Kamuzu Central Hospital confirmed that the victim was indeed defiled.
Appearing in court, William pleaded guilty to the count of defilement and was convicted on his plea.
Passing judgement, SRM Montfort Misunje sentenced William with 13 years IHL to teach him a lesson and deter other would-be offenders.
He hails from Dzoole Village, Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa.
