NORTHERN REGION NB BASKETBALL CUP PLAYOFF KICKS ON

The National Bank Mo626 Basketball cup playoffs for the Northern and Eastern regions kicked off in Mzuzu with eight teams in play.

In the playoffs, Mzuzu University (MZUNI) men basketball team beat University of Livingstonia (UNILIA) and, later, lost to Chancellor College (CHANCO). On the other hand, MZUNI female basketball team lost all the two games against CHANCO and UNILIA.

After all the plays from all the teams, CHANCO outshined all and rated on the position one while MZUNI was crowned on second position.

Speaking after the event, Mzuzu Univeristy Student Representative Council (MUSREC) Sports and wellness director, Henry Feckson, told our reporter that they are, as a team, happy with the victory and, that nevertheless, after scoring a position two, they will work hard so that they can bring the cup home at MZUNI from Lilongwe where they are scheduled for the next level games on 23rd of October, 2021.

The two basketball teams, CHANCO and MZUNI, have separately qualified for the next level and will represent the Northern and eastern regions in the next games which will be played at African Bible College (ABC) in the capital Lilongwe from the 23rd of October, 2021.

In the Northern and Eastern region category, men and female basketball teams which participated include; Mzuni, Unilia, Chanco, DMI and Zima. From the southern and central regions category, among others, include LUANAR, COM, CU, MAGU, AND POLY.

The playoffs, which took place on sartuday the 16th of October, 2021, at Katoto Basketball courts in Mzuzu, was flowed with games from the Eastern and Northern regions of Malawi and only two teams have qualified for semifinals to be played in Lilongwe.
