Malawi Fiscal Police in liason with the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Investigators have arrested and confiscated flowers decorated with pieces of bank notes that also went viral on social media during the Valentine’s period.
RBM Senior Investigation Officer, Emmanuel Malasa, has told Times that a joint operation occurred in Lilongwe and Blantyre cities from February 12 to 15 2021.
Malasa says the exercise in Blantyre led to the arrest of four suspects who if found guilty could be fined up to K5 million.
The four accused are answering to charges of damaging and unlawful use of currency contrary to Section 54 Subsection 2c of the RBM Act 2018.

Avantmalawi confirms the arrest of four suspects namely: Idah Bvalani, DOB 18th August 1992, Vge Bupighu, T/A Mabulambia Chitipa, Businesslady, Eden Events and Decorations; Chikondi Mmanga Kasambala, DOB 4th January 1988; and Kettie Kaphiri DOB 5th November 1989 both come from Vge Daniel T/A Machinjiri District Blantyre; Naila Ibrahim, DOB 25th Feb 1989, Vge Kaleso, T/A Mbenje, District Msanje.
The four accused are answering to charges of Damaging and unlawful use of currency. All the suspects will appear before court soon.
